Katy Underwood, MA, LPC is passionate about helping others. She is dedicated to providing a safe and encouraging environment that allows clients to reach their goals. Katy understands that clients possess an innate power and ability to reach their potential, and she strives to provide services that assists clients in discovering their own intuition, resiliency and strength. She believes that each client is unique and requires an individualized treatment plan to allow them to reach identified goals. She takes time to listen, understand and get to know her clients in order to tailor treatment to meet each person’s specific needs and to provide the best possible care. Katy utilizes an eclectic approach to counseling but specializes in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. She is also skilled in using mindfulness based modalities as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Katy has a great deal of experience working with many different populations and diagnoses. She has provided counseling services to children who have experienced trauma and abuse. She trained extensively in play therapy in order to better communicate with children who were unable to share or connect through verbalizations, but rather through play and art. Katy believes it is paramount to teach clients appropriate coping skills to deal with the stressors of daily living. She is skilled at working with adults. She also enjoys working with children and adolescents, as she believes that coping skills learned at an early age will continue to benefit clients throughout their lives.
Katy is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Louisiana Tech University and her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Amberton University. Katy has extensive training in working with children, adolescents, and adults with depression and anxiety. She is also experienced in working with substance abuse disorders, PTSD, Bipolar Disorders, Schizophrenia, and crisis management. Katy has worked in private practice, children’s advocacy centers and hospital settings.
